It’s a Christmas Miracle!

We love the Christmas holidays. We love giving and getting gifts, shopping for gifts, pictures with Santa, putting up the tree, decorating the house, and of course the baking and the eating. And, of course when I say we, I mean me and The Mommy. PT, not so much. PT likes looking at the tree, and being in charge of turning on and turning off the lights, but he doesn’t care for the time it takes to get the tree up, the restrictions on what...

Feeding Therapy and Woman I want to Kill

One would think that a prominent Children’s Hosptial, who has specialists in area’s like developmental disabilities and an Autism center, that the staff throughout the facility would have a passing familiarity with Autism. Especially a division that promotes itself as a place work on issues of picky eating, texture issues, and like, would be use to seeing children with Autism. Yeah, well apparently not so much. So the back story. A...

The ISPT and The Next Six Months

Writer’s note: This story is the continuation of Dr J. And The Next Six Months, and continues to chronical the process we go through every 6 months to justify the treatment our son recieves. Making the Transition Back to School

So, it is back to school time. As a matter of fact, school starts on Monday. So, how to we prepare for a new school year? PT is high functioning enough that there isn’t much we need to do for him. Last year everything was brand new so there was lots of hand holding and schedule reviewing. This year seems a bit more laid back. But, we have gone over the bus schedule, wake up time, bed time, and the after school schedule for the last...

Dr J. And The Next Six Months

Writer’s note: The story below is about our last visit with PT’s Psychologist whom I refer to as Dr J. or sometimes Dr P. I have decided to document our current renewal to show you how we go about getting our Medical Assistance Behavioral Health Management Organization (yes, they make HMO’s for behavioral health too) to authorize and pay for Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services, which is just a fancy phrase for therapy and...

Here we are…

So here we are. Review time. I wrote about this a few days ago. It is time for our bi-annual review of PT’s care and situation. And, as I posted then, things are going well. He has made great progress in social skills. But we still have issues with things like the potty, his understanding of free will (my way of saying that not everyone wants to do what he wants to do), and of course the chewing and tantrums. Oh yes at age 7 we still have...

Time for a Review

So we go in on Thursday for our semi-annual review. This is where PT’s psychologist sits down with me, PT, and Mr. M to see how PT is doing and what we might need in the next 6 months. He has made tremendous progress over the last year. We still have some social issues, but things are going. The potty is still a problem. Not at school, but he we don’t consistently remind him at home, he will pee in his pants. Poop, well that is...
